At my parents church, they call it a "Pot Blessing". They believe there is no "luck" with God present.
I don't have this book, but I do have one that I should be receiving this week in the Mail. A firend of mine who lives in Southern Indiana sent me a text "Read Pagan-Christianity--Barna and Viola". So I took his word for it and went the their website....WOWAAA... I will let you know what type of things our church is doing that is of Pagan descent.
Preaching to the choir. Have to consider the local culture or context of each "church." Our entire society is so apathetic, its also in our education, families, and workplaces. Personally, I think you need to find a way to host call-in guests. That should get things fired up. Get to work!
Hey go over and listen to the newest talkshoe podcast of Way of the Pastor Radio at wayofthepastor.blogspot.com I spend about 5 minutes talking about Peoples Podcast and what we are discussing concerning the book "Unchristian." Will this book be "how we think about doing church or heresey?" I just got the book in today. We will be talking about this book for the next 2 weeks so I look forward to hearing what you all out there have to say about the book! For the record this is our first "Book Blog!" Send us a book you want us to cover in our next "Book Blog!"

I'm working on getting the book, and I'll join with you all in reading this. I'm laughing right now thinking... If God is judgmental, I mean... He hates sin, and I judge someone because of their sin, isn't that because I'm created in His image? I'll explain more when we get to the book and this blog of an atheist I bumped into the other day.
Battle for God!

Wow...what a thought Butch! But I can see where your going with God's image! Can't wait to dig into conversation with this book...we should go live on talkshoe with it??? Maybe even pay-per-view? Okay maybe not ppv!

I paid $19 for the book... just to update that for your podcast. I don't mean to get too far off subject, but where do you think the church falls short? I mean... this book is obviously trying to deal with that... but what other areas do they fall short?
One thing I have felt God nudging me to do, is in the area of inductive bible study. While I think I'm OK at it, I surely don't consider myself Cliff Sanders. So here I begin to think, Don't we want people to think for themselves? I'm all for books, and when they draw from scripture, I'm OK with that. I just hate these people who give their opinion without drawing from God's word. So, I'm trying to find a way to get people to realize that there is a way to study the Bible on your own, and to draw your own inferences. Thoughts on that?
I'm loving one part of this third chapter on page 62.
Let me give a story to go with this. I went on a retreat with one of the guys from church (Ryan) and over and over again we can not reiterate how important it is to be transparent. Without accountability Satan has us right where he wants us. The quote on that starts on that page could not say what I've been trying to say for so long.
"I thought that becoming a follower of Jesus would help me kick the sin habit, providing the inoculation I needed, but in some ways the symptoms just grew worse. I realized how it was affecting my attitude, my relationships, my life. So the truth is that I'm fighting. I'm fighting sin with everything I've got. Some days I fare better than others. Odds are if you're calling me a hypocrite, then you caught me on one of my worst days.
I am sorry. I'm sorry that I let you down and disappointed you. But the truth is that I'm not giving up or letting go. I've encountered a God who promises that the battle ends in victory-life instead of death. So call me crazy-but I'm holding on to that promise. I'm also trying to uphold the standards that God has set. They're pretty high, and some days I find myself laying on the ground, staring at the ceiling. But then I feel an urge, an energy, to get up and fight once again.
I could use your help. The next time you see me behaving like a hypocrite, pull me aside and gently let me know. I'd really appreciate it."
Now you know why I call my blog... "In the Battle"
Joe... I'm wondering what your stance has been on the homosexuality part of the book...
I took a good hard look at myself. The first thing I thought was... but I mean... it's sin... a smack in the face of God. Then.. my next thought was... "Let he who has no sin... cast the first stone"...
I mean... if you are sinning...it is always against God. It isn't a case that a certain sin is worse than another. I just wanted to hear your thoughts on the subject.
